Romantic Picnic lunch in the Mountains

OK , so we didn't go river rafting! I know, we're such wimps! It's really chilly and I wish I would have been more prepared. So, instead we opted for romantic stroll down Blowing Rock. Blowing Rock is great small town in the mountains with unique shops and boutiques and several restaurants, too. And Ronnie (the romantic) came up with the idea of a picnic lunch in their community park, which is centered down their little main street of shops and restaurants. We found a perfect little deli and bought some sandwiches (Boar's Head Roast beef, our favorite) and laid out in the park and relaxed and enjoyed the cool 64 degree weather under the sun! It was perfect. And I wouldn't have had it any other way. Maybe we'll adventurous next time!
Here are some photos:

Soaking up the sun.

Our lunch.

The view
loving this. and falling in love with my hubby all over again...ahhh....

By the way, today marks 2 years since we moved into our first home. Time truly goes too quickly. Here are photos of our move in day. We were so happy and excited. It totally felt like Christmas. No one can never take that feeling away from us. :)

4th of July 2009!

On our way to the mountains! Ronnie isn't looking because he's against picture taking while driving...what a party popper!

Not the best pic of the mountains but it will do for now!

We are celebrating the 4th in Boone, NC this weekend! We will attempt white water rafting, but I am a chicken and I want to check out the water first. It's really chilly. Thank goodness I brought a light scarf! I didn't think I would need it and boy was I wrong! It's currently in the 60s. Ronnie really needs this weekend to
relax because a lot has gone down this week at work. But more on that later.

I am blogging via iPhone and this is pretty cool. I guess I have no more excuses for not blogging... Right Meli? Well I hope to post some more soon...maybe of this weekend.

In other news, I am working with the Template Mama on a custom layout for Nesting in NC! She's such an angel and I can't wait to unveil the final product! Yay!

Lots to look forward to here at Nesting In NC! Stay tuned!!!

PS if you aren't already follow me on Twitter! @mrserika if you want to keep up with me a little more!

I'm Checking in...

Heeelloooo!!! I know I've been away for a while. I swear I HATE neglecting the blog. But ladies, I am on my summer vacation....it's the time to do all the fun things I can't really enjoy during Aug.-June! I will be quick because hubby and I are almost out the door to grab a bite to eat. But here are some things that have happened since I last blogged..

1. I spent an amazing week at home in Miami!
2. I am set on the dresses for both of my best friends weddings!!!
3. I am now OFFICIALLY on a MAJOR dietaaaaaa.....walking everyay, drinking more water, and eating MUCH better.
4. We've been hit by the economic virus. But it's not the end of the world yet. We are looking into our options and being POSITIVE. No worrying about us...please!
5. California trip is confirmed! Plane tix purchased, TIx to Disneyland are in my possession (Thanks Jackie!!!) and have decided on the hotel we will be staying at.

I will be back to discuss more on these topics! Love ya!

count your blessings....

All I know is that God is good! I've been an emotional roller-coaster since I last posted. A lot of stress and anxiety due to the last few days of school. And of top of that, I learned I would be moved to another school due to projected student count for next year at my school. I don't want to get into too many details, but I will say that I want to thank my friends and my family for their prayers. It pays being around people who love you and support you! My faith in God and those who keep me in their prayers made it happen....I will be at my school next year! I can now rest easy and enjoy my summer. Other things to be thankful for this summer....

1. Miami next Saturday until Thursday!
2. Being with my Pa on Father's Day!
3. My little brother Nicholas does modeling and promotional work. And he has a job in Walt Disney World next Monday. I get to go to WDW for the day. But the best part is to see him in action. This will be his 2nd job for Disney. He was called back because "he's such a good listener!" I am so proud of him!
4. I got an iPhone...so dreamy! I love it!
5. CA is confirmed! We're going to Disneyland.
6. Being able to be with my best friends Jackie and Janelle and help them plan their weddings!
7. Having my aunt come to NC and teach me how to cook Cuban....yes!
8. NO MORE ALARM CLOCK!
9. Being able to have the energy cook for my hubby every night and walk together every evening. :)
10. Baking from Martha Stewart's Cupcakes recipe book.
11. Having the time to organize, organize, organize....I love being domesticated. I just never have the energy being a teacher!
12. Going to Boone, NC for the 4th of July and go white water rafting!
13. Living in NC....I love everything about it and I will get to enjoy what the summer has to offer here.

These are just some things I am thankful for. Simple things. But I know I am a very lucky girl having my hubby, friends, and family in my life to support me and make my life worth living! I miss you all...

Summer Updates

I am sorry I have not blogged in over a week. Unlike most of my teacher friends in Miami, I am still finishing off the school year! We have 5th graduation on Friday and the very last day for me is June 15! It seems forever away because I have so many loose ends to complete before the school year ends and my little ones head off to middle school! So far, I will continue to teach 5th grade next year. I never thought in a million years I'd ever be teaching the upper level and how much I would love it. There is something extremely special about getting the tweens ready to head to middle school. I know I will get extremely emotional on their graduation day! I've been so busy, I haven't even purchased an outfit to wear. (I am going this afternoon!)

I just wanted to fill everyone in. My mom called me yesterday and was surprised I still haven't finished the year out yet! I guess those Snow Days weren't so great after all....we had to make up 3 days! I will return late this week and hopefully share some pictures of Graduation.

In other summer news, we are possibly heading to Los Angeles in late July. Or more like DISNEYLAND! I don't want to get too excited...yet. But Ronnie might be going to California on a business trip and I hope to meet him there to spend the weekend. It is not official until his boss approves the trip. But I am a DISNEY GIRL all the way and this has me extremely anxious! California might mean more to other people (Hollywood, beaches, shopping), but for me its Disneyland. The last time I was anywhere near a Disney property was our engagement in Cinderella Castle in Walt Disney World in 06'. (I know "la pobresita". haha!) I never thought my next trip would take so long (it has never been more than 2 months between visits) and it might be DISNEYLAND? WHAT?! Life is good. :)

greensboro grasshoppers- hoppin' fun

Summers in NC mean bar-b-q's and fresh lemonade, wine festivals, visits to the local farmer's market, drives to the mountains, and Greensboro Grasshoppers Baseball games among other things! This weekend we started our Grasshoppers baseball season. Did you know they are the minor league team affiliated with the Marlins? Ronnie and I love baseball. And although NC does not have a Major League team, these are as close, if not BETTER, baseball games to attend. Just good ole' fashion baseball. And let me tell you, they are extremely popular in this town. There are so supported by the fans! The games are filled, if not sold out, for every game. The Grasshoppers have a lot of history, too. The ballpark is fairly knew and so beautiful and family friendly. Located in Downtown Greensboro, seat tickets range in price, but they start at around $8. So affordable, especially for a day out with the family! Ronnie and I love going to them because they don't involve high prices, rude people, an hour's drive because of traffic and parking is $4 for the Girl's Scouts just a block away! We are awaiting the new ballpark in Winston-Salem which will be the home of the minor league team, The Winston-Salem Dash. Winston-Salem is our neighbor....more games we can enjoy! Check out some pictures of us at the game last weekend!

Sitting with "Guilford" and "Babe Ruth", both Mascots.

Some of the players....future Marlins!

The ballpark located in the middle of Downtown Greensboro.

Enjoying the game together. :)

More of the mascots!

The ballpark at night.

Fireworks after the game.

The end of a fun date night!

a real life bambi

I just have to share this! This is just a little reminder to me how much more different living in NC is. Today while the students were out at recess, we got a little visitor. This elderly man who hunts rabbits came by to show us what his Beagles found today....this cute little deer! So precious. The man said he'd been hunting for almost 75 years and this had never happened to him! Too cute!!!! *No worries, he was going to return the deer and look for his family.*

Warm Vanilla Sugar Wallflower

I've been in our first home for almost 2 years now. And I think I've tried every candle brand, type, smell, yet seem to never find the perfect scent that I want to purchase again. I usually tend to lean towards clean scents. But that has never really stopped me. I'd try anything just to find one staple scent that I can dedicate in buying in bulk. Because of my mother, I've learned to put a wall scent in every room of my house. And a candle in the kitchen and living room. I love coming home to a good smelling house. But who doesn't, right!?

However, the moment has come! This may sound silly, but I just had to share that I have found the one I truly love.....Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar! I love the wallflowers because I've learned that they don't give off an overbearing scent. Just a light and soft scent that I can live with. And there is something light and sweet about Warm Vanilla Sugar, yet a clean scent too! Its perfect!

And beginning June 1, the Wallflowers will go on sale for $5 each! That's a $7.50 savings. Time to stock up ladies! Warm Vanilla Sugar will please you....enjoy!!!

Official Domain Name

It's official guys! We've settled into a real "home" on the internet. So, welcome to www.nestinginnc.com! It was so simple, too! I was able to do it right through Blogger. ($10 for a year.) From what I understand, everything gets redirected to our new home. Everything should be working for everyone in about 3 days. But, just in case, please edit your favorites! Thanks guys!

On another note, today I was surprised by our neighbors with fresh cut roses right at our door step! Another reason why living in NC is so wonderful. Yes, we trust our neighbors. Yes, they get our mail for us when we travel. Yes, they welcomed us with cookies and gifts when we first moved in! And today, our neighbor's across the street presented us with roses from their garden. So pretty!

Pretty awesome, huh? :)

Blog Award

Wow! When I started this blog about 2 years ago, I really thought it would be just my cousin Melissa and my parents who would read it. Now, not only do more of my friends and family read it, I have NEW friends, or more like "Blog Sisters" who also care what I am up to! I always see these pretty and well deserved blog rewards on some of my favorite blogs. Now, I have my very own! I feel like I am officially part of a blog community! My warm hearted thanks to Johanna at JL Family and Eli at Living, Loving, and Everthing in Between!

The Rules
1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link.

I want to pass it along to the following blogs:
1. My cousin Meli at Roodboi Productions My cousin is the very best! She is the one who inspired me to blog. Her blog is filled with her opinions, but most importantly, her ventures on going back to school and fulfilling her dreams at video productions, etc. She is EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY, funny, too! She is a sweet person, with a BIG heart and I am not just saying that because she is like my sister! :)
2. Dalia at Blossoming Dalia Dalia is a dear friend of mine. She began blogging when she got engaged and used it to vent and share wedding information. She is now a newlywed and has just purchased their first home. She is a busy teacher like I am and I am sure she will soon pick up her blog soon!
3. Nicky at Je t'aime Nicky and Andy are recent newlyweds! We go way back to working together at a local elementary school after school care during college! They met there and are now married! She began blogging about their wedding plans and their honeymoon. Nicky is a creative jewel, as well as her husband, to say the least! I love them dearly!

She has always been the fashionable and creative one. She knows what she likes and always has passion for whatever it is! She is new blogger, so keep an eye on this one. It's sure to please!

Congrats ladies! :)

On another note. Will YOU watch the newest season of The Bachelorette after The Bachelor fiasco last season? Will you let yourself go there, again?! I don't know...we'll see if I have the energy to stay up that late! This happens to me every season! grrr!
